“Suspended Eddies” was an installation situated between two rows of London Plane trees located in in Occidental Square, in the Pioneer Square neighborhood of Seattle, WA.
Created onsite, it was 75’ long, 42’ wide and 17’ deep, hanging at a minimum of 18’ off the ground to accommodate the food trucks that would visit the square each day.
During the daytime, the shadows would filter thru and at night the piece had a slowly shifting LED projection created by David Verkade.
One memorable collaboration involving this piece was a premiere of chamber music of Michaud Savage. We placed both the musicians and the public underneath the piece so that one could lie supine on a cushioned area and listen to the music as the wind moved the trees and piece overhead.
Pieces are intended to become environments - for music, for theatre, dance, social dancing, tai chi, and manner of organized and informal gatherings by creating a smaller inviting space within the larger urban space.
Commissioned by Downtown Seattle Association in 2016.
Suspended Eddies was illuminated at night with a 20 minutes slowly shifting LED light projections designed by David Verkade.
The piece stretched down a 75' length of plaza.
